How Saudi Brands Can Prepare for AI Search and Google AI Overviews

· 1337 words · Updated · Eclipse Advertising Agency

Key takeaways
  • Google's AI features use the same ranking systems as Search. There is no special AI file you must add.
  • Pages that get cited have a short direct answer, clear headings, and facts a model can quote without the rest of the page.
  • Do not write a second site 'for AI.' Thin, scaled, or keyword-stuffed pages hurt both Search and AI features.
  • Track the queries that already show AI Overviews in your Search Console data, then fix those URLs first.

Buyers in Saudi Arabia still start many journeys on Google, but more of those results now include an AI Overview or an answer from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Copilot. The instinct is to publish a new format “for AI.” Google’s published position is the opposite: the same helpful pages that rank in Search are the pages generative features draw from. This guide turns that into a work list for a Saudi brand — without inventing markup, authors, or statistics.

What Google actually says

Google’s AI features optimisation guide is explicit:

That is the Google half. Other answer engines (ChatGPT with search, Perplexity, Copilot) still reward pages they can parse: stable HTML, short answer blocks, tables, FAQs that match visible text, and a machine-readable overview such as llms.txt. Those files help non-Google engines. They do not replace a ranking page.

What “cited” actually requires

A page is useful to an answer engine when a 40–60 word passage can stand alone: it names the thing, the place, and the constraint, and it does not depend on a previous heading. Pattern that works on a service page:

  1. First paragraph answers “what is this and who is it for in Saudi Arabia.”
  2. H2s repeat the questions people type (“Does the work include Arabic and English?”).
  3. A table beats a paragraph for comparisons (SEO vs ads, animation vs live action).
  4. An FAQ restates answers already in the prose. FAQPage schema must match the visible Q&A — it is not a hiding place for extra keywords.
  5. Claims that can change (laws, platform rules, product limits) link to the official source and the date you checked it.

Do not add a named author, a review rating, a phone number or a directory listing unless that fact is already true and public. Invented E-E-A-T is worse than an Organization author.

Technical access: if a bot cannot fetch it, it cannot cite it

A short llms.txt at the site root — what the company is, where it works, which pages are canonical, which facts must not be invented (pricing, phone, awards) — is useful for agents that look for it. It is not a ranking hack.

Content types that get retrieved (and the ones that backfire)

More likely to be usedOften ignored or harmful
Official service, pricing-policy, and process pages with extractable answersGeneric “best agency in Saudi Arabia” listicles that recommend everyone including you
Original checklists, tables, and sourced figuresTranslated templates that share the same paragraphs across dozens of URLs
Dated guides that name the constraint (licence, language, city)Undated essays with no authoring organisation and no sources
Case studies that describe work you actually shippedInvented testimonials, ratings or staff bios

Format mixes shift. After late-2025 and 2026 retrieval changes, several engines leaned harder on official and primary pages and less on comparison listicles. The durable bet is still: own a clear page for the thing you sell, and make it quotable.

A Saudi-specific checklist

Measurement without an “AI report” in Search Console

Google has said there is no separate Search Console report for AI Overviews. You still use Performance (queries, pages, countries), indexing, and the pages that already get impressions. Practical loop:

  1. Export queries with impressions but weak CTR or positions 8–20 — those are the pages an Overview might summarise without a click.
  2. For each, write a 50-word answer at the top and an FAQ that a model can lift.
  3. Manually sample ten money queries in Google, ChatGPT (with search) and Perplexity a few times each. Record whether you are cited, which URL, and who else is. Treat a single run as an anecdote.
  4. Request indexing after substantial page changes, then leave the URL alone long enough to recrawl.

What not to do

Worked example: a Riyadh service page that can be quoted

Take a branding URL that currently ranks for “branding agency riyadh” only through a blog post. The service page should open with a sentence a model can lift: who you are, the city, what the engagement includes, and how to start. The next block is a five-row table of deliverables. The FAQ repeats those rows in question form. Nothing in the schema is absent from the visible page. That structure serves the human buyer, Google’s AI features, and ChatGPT’s retrieval in the same file. If the title still says “branding project” instead of “branding agency,” fix the title before you add another paragraph about AI.

Do the same for digital marketing, social, and video. One repaired money page is worth more than ten new AI-themed blog posts.

Where to start this month

Pick the three commercial URLs that already attract impressions (for many agencies: homepage, branding, digital marketing). Put a factual FAQ on each, fix truncated titles, and make the first paragraph a definition a model can quote. Then rewrite one genuine guide per week instead of publishing twenty templates. Eclipse’s own insights library follows that rule: templated pages stay noindex until they are original.

If you want the same treatment on a client site, Eclipse’s digital marketing work includes SEO for pages that have to rank and be cited. Bring the URLs and Search Console; do not bring a list of invented keywords.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need llms.txt to appear in Google AI Overviews?

No. Google says no special file or markup is required. llms.txt can still help other answer engines and buying agents understand the site.

Should we write separate content for ChatGPT?

No. Write one people-first page with extractable answers. A second 'AI version' risks scaled-content policies and usually duplicates the public page.

How do we know if AI Overviews mention us?

There is no AI-only Search Console report. Sample your money queries across Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity several times, and watch which of your URLs already get impressions.
